The Horticulture and Agriculture Teachers Association of New Zealand (HATA) is a subject association dedicated to promoting and improving the teaching and learning of Agricultural and Horticultural Science in New Zealand schools.

 

HATA encourages, supports and shares information about curriculum, teaching and learning, through the running of biennial conferences, managing a website (https://hata.nz/), publishing quarterly newsletters and regular communication with their members.

What does HATA do?

  • Provides expertise and experience

  • Advocacy role with MoE, NZQA, etc.

HATA is committed to;

  • Continue its role of advocacy and support to all teachers of Agricultural and Horticultural Science in New Zealand

  • Maintain and develop good effective communication to members

  • Maintain and develop the provision of resources and information relevant to the teaching of Agricultural and Horticultural Science via its website https://hata.nz/  

  • Allow networking opportunities on a range of topics (curriculum, assessments, exchanges, professional development etc)

  • Keep its members informed of any development affecting their work as teachers of Agricultural and Horticultural Science

  • Continue to raise its profile as a Subject Association

  • Holding and organising the HATA biennial conference

  • Is committed to support the maintenance of the website https://hata.nz/ to provide teachers with quality up to date resources and information

  • Actively has around 110 members

  • Seeks new members throughout New Zealand

  • Continues to promote Agricultural and Horticultural Science in New Zealand school

We have two Presidents – one to represent Agriculture and one to represent Horticulture; a secretary and a treasurer. Candidates for these positions are elected biennially at our conference.

Joining HATA is by annual subscription and members receive four newsletters a year informing them of curricular issues and forthcoming events. HATA tries to provide support for teachers with resources, content and conferences.
